Paintings

Colour makes me happy!

My bright, paintings reflect my need to create extreme colour, texture and pattern.

My abstract paintings are informed by colours remembered from my home country of Australia (the stunning areas of red earth, water and horizons, my parents’ gardens), as well as images, memories and experiences from my travels.

I feel the colours in my paintings are a direct response to being an Australian living and working in London. The greyer the day, the brighter my artworks seem to be.

I also love pattern and texture. The patterns and textures in my paintings are a reflection of my city around me, a response to patterns I see in the natural world, and memories of places I have visited.

I start with a base colour and build up layers of paint using a variety of methods, particularly those which will give the feeling of texture. I like to be able to see the layers below. I will drip, scrape, and block colour, depending on my inspiration and mood. I especially love to use small, textured lines. Sometimes I use shapes of architecture or nature as a starting point.

I am fascinated by the use of dripping paint which takes away control, allowing experimentation and surprise to be part of the final configuration. The roughness and absorbency of canvas, thickness of paint and primers all add to the unknown outcome.

My sculptures and paintings are for sale.
